SL Team

Football

The primary workhorses at Sport Literate, a fiercely loyal foursome (though that ain’t us on those horses), have donated professional talents to this literary endeavor for most of its nearly 30-year existence. That’s some grownup commitment.

William Meiners is the founding editor of Sport Literate.

Nicholas Reading, Brian McKenna, and Michael Gawdzick are assistant editors of SL.

Erin Ingram designed our print issue, as well as our website, for a decade. We go to her in a pinch, but also rely on the talents of Beth Embrey, a talented designer in Michigan, for website help.

Frank Van Zant is our longtime poetry editor.

Old Guard and Next Generation

It may not take a village, but it does take several steady hands to keep a small press magazine afloat. The starting lineup, which included Jotham Burrello (co-editor), Jennifer Richter (poetry editor) and Lori Svikel (graphic designer), helped build Sport Literate in the 1990s. Gina Vozenilek (managing editor) provided a keen eye through the first decade of this century. Rod Heckaman, our old friend who died much too young, designed our look through 2005.

We continued to evolve our work with the help of Steve Mend, a documentary filmmaker and multimedia man.  And we’re open to students and interns interested in helping with the day-to-day doings of a small press publication.
